Yesterday was a big wrenching day. I’d already received the new LED turn signals, and the new windscreen was out for delivery. What ought to have been relatively simple became a bit of an adventure, as is so often the case.
You’re probably wondering “why change the turn signals after nearly three years of ownership, Nik?” Well, the mismatched front and rear ones that were on the bike when I bought it have always bothered me, but at first I just couldn’t be bothered to invest the effort, and then I started doubting I’d keep the bike for long. That’s no longer the case, so here we are.
The mismatched hideousness:
On the FJ the front signals are mounted to the side panels, and the wiring harness connectors are underneath:
Before any further work, it’s a good idea to test things out, so I assembled each of the four signal sets (turns signal + daytime running light adapter + OEM Yamaha wiring harness connector adapter) and made sure they worked:
I then fully assembled one side to make sure it all fit together nicely:

It was at this time that I was visited by Chief Inspector Sawyer, who made sure things were on the up and up:
